Mind your business, you won’t die!

This might be a rant!

One thing I have observed about Nigerians (or people generally) is that we don’t like minding our business, this is very bad. We seem to always have an opinion about every topic; good, bad or ugly. This particular attitude can be very annoying and distasteful. As human beings, it is not very good to be too opinionated. Some people are not just interested in whatever you want to say. The comments we give can be very painful and heartbreaking, especially on issues that do not concern us.

You are concerned that your friend/sister/colleague/neighbor/classmate is not yet married at a particular age; it is none of your business. If you can not produce a husband for her, don’t disturb her with your annoying comment. Just mind your business, you won’t die!

You have an older brother/friend/colleague/church member/neighbor who is not bothered about starting a family soon but you are bothered, how does it affect you? What is your “consign”? Why can’t you just mind ya business, will you die? Certainly not!

Someone uploads a picture on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook, you have no better comment than “why is your make up like this” or “you have added weight ooo”? If you mind your business, will you die? Certainly not!

Your colleague at work is always looking downcast, you have never asked what the problem might be but you are always saying one negative thing or the other. If you don’t have a solution to a problem, there is no need aggravating the issue. Just carefully mind your business and you will be free from unwarranted insults.

People who do not mind their business, always end up being abused or disrespected. This is why handles like Trailer Jam exist on Twitter, to ensure people who do not mind their business are treated right.

For example:

I beseech you therefore brethren that men ought to always mind their business!

End of rant!

Hit the Heart!
